Soter

The bright ruby color of this dark-fruited Pinot Noir is a confident representation of Oregon’s 2007 vintage. Our proactive picking decisions took advantage of excellent maturity. We picked over 90% of our harvest before any rains. Only the best lots were blended for bottling. The result is a wine with compelling dark charry fruit nuanced with hints of slate, lavender, plum and spice. The supple palate has ample weight, juicy acidity and a silky finish. The wine is precocious in development and approchability but should improve with bottle age for several years. It offers immediate enjoyment with a range of foods. A fine Pinot Noir can have no higher calling.

Wine Advocate

The Pinot Noirs begin with the 2007 North Valley Pinot Noir. The fruit for this cuvee was picked entirely before the late September rainfall but the wine shows no green character whatsoever. Medium ruby-colored, it exhibits a fragrant nose of cedar, spice box, cherry, and cranberry. On the palate it shows off a forward personality, sweet fruit, light tannin, and savory flavors. Drink this tasty effort over the next 6 years.

Score: 90. —Jay Miller, October 2009.
