Handley 2022 Helluva Vineyard Pinot Noir
Winery Notes:
The 2022 vintage started slowly with cold winter and early spring temperatures resulting in late bud break. Temperatures remained somewhat moderate in Anderson Valley through the summer growing season. Over Labor Day we experienced extremely high temperatures which stalled sugar accumulation delaying picking. The additional hang time waiting for sugars to rise allowed for additional ripening and resulted in rich and concentrated flavors. Helluva Vineyard is located at the warmer end of the Valley near Boonville and is always our first Pinot Noir picked. This wine is a blend of two clones of Pinot Noir: Pommard (66%) and Rochioli (34%) showing creamy aromas, biscuit, candied cherries, and baking spices. Marked by flavors of ripe black cherries, caramel, and nutmeg with a hint of cinnamon spice on the finish. A supple mouthfeel with delicate acidity carrying the persistent dark cherry fruit and cinnamon spice finish. Aged for 10 months in all French Oak barrels (33% new).
